Dr. Florence Temu

Country Director, Amref Health Africa Tanzania

An experienced leader in non-profit health management with over 20 years of demonstrated expertise in health program design, organizational development, and transformative healthcare initiatives across Africa.

Biography

Dr. Florence Temu is the Country Director for Amref Health Africa- Tanzania, a role that she assumed since May 2016. Before that Florence was a Country Director for Amref Health Africa – Ethiopia. While at Amref, Florence rose from being a Project Manager, Head of Programmes, and then Deputy Country Director before becoming a Country Director.

Before joining Amref Health Africa, Florence was the Head of the Cancer Prevention Services Division at Ocean Road Cancer Institute in Tanzania; prior to that, she was a general practitioner and researcher under Maternal and HIV research (PMTCT clinical trials) at Muhimbili National Hospital.

Education & Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) - Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (1994)
  • Masters in Public Health (MPH) - Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (2000)
  • Diploma in Palliative Care - Makerere University (2003-2024)
  • University Certificate in Geriatric Health Care Management - Kaplan University
